The Sixth FOR Iran Peace Delegation at Persepolis,
March 2008

Ellen Francis, OSH

I entered the Order of Saint Helena in 2000, and since then I've lived in all three convents of the Order. I'm currently settling into a new life in Augusta GA. My ministries have included parish supply, some retreat leading, ministry with associates, and I am currently the Sister for Vocations. This is turning out to be a fascinating ministry and I am greatly enjoying conversations with women who are exploring and discerning God's call.

I occasionally remember to make notes or post a sermon on my blog: ellenfrancis.blogspot.com

I also write icons, and examples of my work are up for view on this website. I am delighted to discuss commissions for new icons; reproductions and cards are also available by request.

My most important outside ministry has been working for peace with Iran. I lived in Iran for 7 years in the 1960s and 70s, and I speak Farsi.  I've been privileded to be a co-leader and staff person on four recent delegations to Iran and have also given many presentations and interviews about the U.S.-Iranian standoff.

My efforts towards peace include this article, “Citizen diplomacy in Iran” which I wrote for the National Catholic Reporter, September 22, 2006. Another article, entitled "Iran is Not the Enemy", was published in April 2008 in the "On Faith" section of the Washington Post/Newsweek online.

My work for peace with Iran was noted in an article entitled “8 Heros of Nonviolence (you haven't heard of)” Trinity News, November 5, 2007.

I was also featured in an article, “Evangelical Nun works for unity in Iran, Afghanistan” in the Times Herald-Record, July 2, 2007.
